Hypothetical example / Construction
See where a job stands before it’s finished.
Imagine a small contractor juggling a few jobs. Crew hours sit in a time app, material receipts arrive by email, and the original estimate lives in a spreadsheet.
The idea
Bring the hours and receipts back to the job.
Use a job name or number to collect time records and approved receipt totals in one sheet. Compare them with the estimate as the work comes in.
Made-up job summary / Work in progress
Maple Street porch repair
Recorded so far, alongside the original estimate
| Item | Estimated | So far |
|---|---|---|
| Crew hours | 80 hrs | 62 hrs |
| Materials | $2,400 | $2,680 |
Worth a look: materials are $280 over the estimate. Check the receipts and any changes to the job before the next purchase.
The useful part: a contractor could spot a cost change during the job, with the supporting records in one place. Hours logged alone don’t show how much work remains.
